The Netflix film influenced us! We spent a day letting our kids run the schedule of fun and it was, well, a lot of fun. Just like in the movie, we learned more about our family and the time together made us closer.
We did 5 pm Saturday-5 pm Sunday due to the kids playing sports Saturday morning
No new pets, etc.
Local
Money must be parent approved
Can be done by all of us
We started with sushi, our favorite!
The kids are in love with sushi, so their first request for Yes Day was to go to Saisaki, our favorite sushi place in town. The food is so fresh and delicious! We are hooked on their California, spicy salmon and spicy shrimp rolls. The dragon roll comes with a flame lit on the plate. We also love their miso soup and carrot ginger dressing. I love to sip on a hot green tea. The kids ordered soda and a little more that they usually due because it was Yes Day. It was a feast!
Legos, Board games & Magnetic Putty
The kids wanted to stay up until 1 AM playing board games and building Lego sets together. We got a couple Minecraft Lego sets because the animals are so cute and a Friends Lego set. It was fun to see how much they could do!

We played Pop the Pig so many times. Everyone could play 4-40, lol. Roll the dice to pick a hamburger, then stuff the pig with a hamburger. Then push down on his head the number of times that is on the back of the hamburger picked. As you push down on his head, his belly expands until it finally pops. It was a lot of fun!
In Throw, throw burrito we had to make sets of 3 with the cards. Once you have a made a 3 set of burrito cards a battle begins dictated by the rules on the cards: a dual, a war and more. It was a lot of fun to throw squishy burritos at each other. But I have to say that we had to make a rule to let those in the battle stand up first before being attacked. It can be quite alarming to get a surprise slap in the face with a burrito when you are focused on matching your cards, lol!
We loved it so much that we later went back and got the outdoor version. It is exactly the same, except larger cards and burritos. The burritos are large inflatables. It is a lot of fun to chase each other around the yard launching a 3 foot burrito at each other. This may be our new way of settling disagreements, lol!
The magnetic putty turned out to be putty with metal flakes with a strong magnet included. Our oldest made time lapse videos to show the pull of the magnetic force.
Ramen & Ice cream for breakfast
The kids wanted Hardee's breakfast platters, ramen and strawberry ice cream for breakfast. Another feast, lol! They loved and regretted being able to eat whatever they wanted.
Nerf battle - Parents vs kids
The backyard became a battlefield covered in Nerf bullets. Us parents surprise attacked and raided the kids from behind trees and the swing set. We were surprised at our team work. Still got it, lol! Lots of laughing and betrayal.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier
We made an exception to no screens. We cuddled and watched a few episodes together of Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Netflix. We needed some quiet time while the 4 year old took a nap.
Yes Day Reflection
A lot of time can be spent with the kids in just one day. I was amazed at how much attention and time I could give my kids in a relatively short amount of time within a whole weekend.
I liked how we spent all of the time together. We did not make the activities mandatory, but everyone was invited. It was fun to have so much time to talk and see each other. These types of activities are usually reserved for play dates, vacation or when we have guests. I liked the close knit, just us, time together.
Would I do it again?
Yes! and No!
I loved the memories made and the bonding that increased between all 5 of us. We all seem to be better friends as a result. So in that way, we are pumped for future Yes days.
However, I would like for the kids to have some time to plan the activities and maybe with a budget in mind. I also think good grades and a clean house are good prerequisites like in the movie, but I am bad at waiting, so I am not sure we will ever include this part of Yes day.
All in all, I have learned how much adventure is needed for all of us! So even if it is not a Yes day, I think I will say "Yes" a little more. After all, "you only mom once, YOMO," lol.
